After school programs

What happens between 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day while parents are at work and students are home alone or out with friends can determine their future. It is inevitable for parents to ALWAYS know where their children are and what they are doing. This is because parents are still at work or on their daily commute home from work.

Because of schedules and demanding careers for parents, Omaha after school programs provide a space for our youth to hangout, get homework done, have a nutritious meal and stay out of trouble while mom, dad or their guardians are at work.

What are after school programs?

After school programs, also known as out-of-school OTS programs, are programs provided to children and teens  in a local community that provide a broad range of activities from sports to tutoring and mentoring. These programs help to provide children and youth a safe space while parents are at work.

It is estimated that over 10 million children around the United States are part of an after school program. These Omaha after school programs help children and youth in our area to stay safe, boost their academics and reduce risky behaviors while parents are working.

An Omaha after school programs is more than a time for children and youth to run around and be social with others. An afterschool program is known to improve a student’s overall academic performance in that school year. At Dream, our staff help children with their homework, study for tests and provide extra attention when needed.

Furthermore, it is stated that after school programs help to foster and encourage youth to step out of their comfort zones. Whether this is trying a new snack or fruit or participating in a physical activity that the student has never tried. This provides our youth with new experiences and understanding that it is okay to not be the best the first time around!

How to find the right program

Parents, how can you find the right program for your child/ren? There are three different questions to ask any after school program:

Is this educational?

Yes, our programs are educational. Dream offers students tutors and tutoring programs. This sets the expectation that all homework can be done before parents come to pick up their children.

Is this fun?

At Dream, we have a blast and so do our students! A great example is our field trips we take. From visiting the fire department to learn about STEM programs in a fun, but educational way, our students are NEVER bored. If they are, we are doing something wrong!

What does your program provide? Our programs specifically providing the following opportunities for students:

  • Tutoring in math and reading
  • Cultural activities
  • Enrichment activities
  • Field trips
  • Homework assistance
  • Meals following USDA guidelines
  • Recreational and sports activities
  • Service-learning projects

Each student who comes to our programs often have different needs set out by parents. One student might need help with homework while another student needs to run around and get their energy out. No matter what, our programs are educational, fun and provide nutritious meals, tutoring, mentoring and even more.
